Agreement Program Participants

Lebanon & Beyond (L&B) is committed to providing a unique opportunity to the Lebanese Diaspora to strengthen their bonds with Lebanon through the Jouzour program, and in a learning and exploratory environment that supports and encourages respect for every individual, and promotes the development of professionalism, responsibility, and integrity among all participants.  

The staff, the instructors, the volunteers, and the participants share the responsibility for creating a positive, safe, and comfortable environment that is free of all forms of misconduct, including sexual harassment. 

All participants are requested to adhere to the rules and regulations stated below at all times. A breach to any of these will be evaluated by L&B and may result in immediate dismissal from the Jouzour program.

In pursuing these goals, the Jouzour program expects that participants adhere to the following rules: 

  • Explore, Learn and Serve! The Jouzour Program will be an exciting opportunity to explore and connect with Lebanon unlike never before! For the enjoyment of the trip as well as your safety and the safety of those around you, it is critical that you follow all staff instructions and adhere to basic and common-sense rules and regulations. 

  • Full Participation: Attendance of all the activities is mandatory.  All participants will be required to partake in the daily activities over the full duration of the program as follows: 

    • Be on time for scheduled activities and departures, including all classes, workshops, community programs, and transportation.

    • Immediately notify L&B staff of any illnesses or other reasons that may prevent you from participating in a structured activity or being there on time.

    • The buses will load and depart on time so if you are left behind, you will have to find your way to the daily activities at your own expense.

    • The program itinerary will be shared with you ahead of time and you are expected to be familiar with it and adhere to it. 

    • Participants who complete all activities will receive a certificate of completion for participating in the Jouzour program. 

  • Lebanon & Beyond Staff: Our team is in place to assure your safety and comfort at all times; therefore, we expect you to respect them and follow their instructions. It is very important to stay together with the group during a structured activity.  If you need to leave for an unexpected reason, you are expected to notify the L&B staff prior to leaving.

  • Common sense and Courtesy: Be aware of your surroundings and exercise good judgment at all times. Be sure to respect the given time slots during activities as they are structured this way to assure the maximum amount of safety and comfort for the group and also to respect the organization, institution or individual hosting us. Providing your undivided attention is key. You are requested not to engage in any form of disruptive behavior that interferes with the learning or work of others.

  • Accommodation: Treat your accommodation space room with care. You will be held responsible and charged for any and all damage you cause. Be mindful of noise. Smoking in the rooms is not permitted. You may check smoking designated areas; they are often outside of campus premises. 

    With few exceptions, most rooms are for double occupancy. Rooms are also gender specific, and male and female participants are not allowed to share a room.  The same rules apply to off-campus accommodations such as hotels, campgrounds or other facilities.

    If you would like to share a room with another specific participant, please Share their names with L&B staff, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

  • Emergency Contacts and Cards: All participants should provide two emergency contact names and information.  An “Emergency Contacts Card” encased in your lanyard is to be always kept in your possession.

  • Curfew and Leaving the premises: It will be the responsibility of each participant to get the proper amount of sleep every night in order to be ready to tackle the next day’s activities. If you plan to leave the premises, you are asked to notify L&B staff to assure we are aware of your whereabouts at all times. You are encouraged not to leave alone and to take the proper precautions to assure your own safety outside of the premises. 

  • Controlled substances: The possession, usage, or sharing of controlled substances during the Jouzour program is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate dismissal.

  • Non-Jouzour Participants: It’s strictly prohibited to bring individuals who are not Jouzour participants (parents, friends, etc.) to our program activities (ex. accommodation, meals, transportation, etc.). No private external vehicles will be allowed to follow our transportation/the program around for security reasons as requested by the Lebanese Internal Security. 

  • Dress code: Participants must adhere to proper dress code and identification must be worn at all times during the program activities 

  • Safety and code of conduct:

    • Alcoholic beverages are only permitted within designated areas and are not to be consumed during classes, program activities, or transportation.  

    • Public intoxication (from any intoxicant) is strictly prohibited.

    • Cigarette smoking is not permitted on the bus, in the dorms, or on program premises. Please check the designated smoking areas. 

    • Pornography is strictly prohibited on all properties and on all program owned electronic devices.

    • Participants are asked to follow the “SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING” rule.  All suspicious persons or behaviors must be immediately reported to the program Director and/or staff. 

    • Firearms, knives, and other weapons are prohibited at all times.

    • The program maintains a zero tolerance of any form of harassment against any staff member, instructor, or a fellow participant. 

    • Any violations of local laws will result in a report to local law enforcement for review and action, as they deem appropriate.
